THE BREAD-TIZER SET
How might we design a family of cast-iron vessels that optimize bread baking?
1. Form ideation and exploration
The first 3D printed prototypes lacked draft angles.
Draft angles are added tapers to help parts release from a mold.
2. 3D printed prototypes: lid, Dutch oven, skillet, and mini cocotte.
3. Exploring handle ergonomics

4. Bread-tizer Set finalized design and features
The Bread-tizer Set is designed to be sand cast.

Although most casting patterns have gating—the metal pouring system that guides molten iron into the mold cavity—the Virginia Tech foundry does not require patterns to include gating.

6. Speculative work: exploring enameled cast iron and brand magazines.
The Bread-tizer Set was made in collaboration with Drunken Stallion: Malayna Cherbaka and Sydney Dechow.
