1. Exploring form with scrap models.
A wide seat and gentle recline allow fidgeting and offer rest to the restless.
2. Revised design
Green wood is freshly cut wood that contains internal moisture, causing it to warp and shrink as it dries.
3. Transform green wood logs into more manageable quarter and half log sections.
4. Milling: reduce the half logs into planar boards 1.5" thick.
5. Cut the quarter logs into blocks ideal for the lathe.
6. Turn the chair legs and beams on the lathe.
Using traditional green wood joinery ensures that the joints can sustain warping as the wood dries.
7. Connect and secure the components of the chair with wedged mortise and tenon joints.
Fidget. Relax. Conversate.
8. Physical model.
9. Packaging concepts, including fitted foam inserts to protect the chair while shipping.
A potential redesign of the Saddle chair lengthens the seat to intersect with the back legs for increased stability.
10. Continued work.
